Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi postponed selection of a new defense minister to replace the dismissed Khaled al-Obeidi until liberation of Mosul, RIA Novosti reports citing Iraqi MP Abdul Rahman al-Luwaizi.
Former Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi was removed on charges of corruption by a parliamentary decision in August.
On Monday, Iraqi servicemen, by order of commander in chief of the armed forces, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, started a military operation to liberate Mosul.
“Prime minister will postpone selection of defense minister until liberation of Mosul, since a number of candidates are proposed for the position”, the MP said.
According to him, the MPs are considering several candidates, however, al-Abadi will make the final decision.
