( AP ) - Israeli soldiers shot and killed two Palestinian gunmen in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, the army and Palestinian doctors said.
Hamas said the dead men were members of the militant group.
The troops identified the two militants near the fence surrounding the Gaza Strip near the Karni crossing into Israel, the army said. The soldiers briefly entered the Gaza Strip, exchanged fire with the gunmen and killed them, the army said. Palestinian doctors confirmed that two men in Hamas uniforms had arrived dead at the hospital.
Palestinian militants are frequently killed in such clashes in the area of the fence.
Hamas wrested control of the Gaza Strip from the Fatah movement in mid-June, almost a year after Israel withdrew from the coastal area.
