The retired head of Pakistan's army commando unit has been shot dead in Islamabad, the police say.
Major-General Amir Faisal Alvi was killed in a drive-by shooting on Wednesday by men on a motorbike and others in a car, reproted Aljazeera.
The motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
Alvi retired two years ago having lead the army's Special Services Group.
Sajid Ahmed, a police officer, told the AFP news agency: "General Alvi left his house in his car when gunmen on a motorbike and in a Pajero sprayed bullets at him near his house."
The Special Services Group has carried out covert operations in Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal areas where the military continues to battle heavily armed groups opposed to the government in Islamabad.
