US indicts 13 Russians for alleged meddling in elections

Thirteen Russian nationals have been criminally charged for interfering in the 2016 US elections to help Donald Trump, the office of Robert Mueller, the US special counsel, announced on Friday., TASS reported.

A 37-page indictment alleges that the Russians’ operations “included supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J Trump <...> and disparaging Hillary Clinton". The indictment also claims the defendants staged political rallies and bought political advertising while posing as grassroots entities.

US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the defendants engaged in “information warfare against the US, with the stated goal of spreading distrust towards the candidates and the political system in general."
