Turkish Deputy FM: Caspian Sea’s energy resources - key for international energy security

Energy resources of the Caspian Sea are a key for the international energy security, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Naci Koru said during his speech at the Caspian Forum in Istanbul on Thursday.

"Caspian region has strategic importance. And Turkey is fully committed to development of relations with all countries of the Caspian region," he said.

He said Turkey is committed to peace, dialogue and cooperation with the Caspian region countries.

Koru also said that the conflicts in the region have negative effect. "Turkey will spend all efforts to contribute to the resolution of conflicts, and we support integrity of territory, in particular, of Azerbaijan," he said.

Naci Koru said Turkey is willing to further improve the relations with the Central Asian countries.

"The realization of the Southern Gas Corridor will provide with alternative route," he said.

"The Southern Gas Corridor is important for the EU and for Turkey in particular as it provides with additional sources," he said.

The Southern Gas Corridor is a major energy project for the EU. It is intended to diversify routes and sources of supply. It is aimed at ensuring EU energy security. Gas which will be produced during the second stage of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field development is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects.
