Former vice president convicted of corruption in Iran

Special court considering the case of civil servants in Iran sentenced the first vice president of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, who was convicted of corruption, Iran`s IRNA state information agency reported on Feb. 25.

Special court considering the case of civil servants in Iran sentenced the first vice president of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, who was convicted of corruption, Iran`s IRNA state information agency reported on Feb. 25.

Iran`s prosecutor-general and Judiciary adviser prosecutor-general Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i neither denying nor confirming the information said that a press-conference will be held in this regard soon.

The name of the former vice president was mentioned in the scandal about a $3 billion financial fraud against an Iranian insurance company. When Rahimi was in the position of vice president, the case was sent to the court. Rahimi, his advisor Isfendiyar Rahimi Meshai, Tehran's Governor Morteza Tamadon, and Education Minister Kamran Daneshjou were suspected of bribery.
At the court hearing, one of the main defendants said that he transferred about $600,000 in to Rahimi`s personal bank account. The Tehran prosecutor's office issued a statement in December 2013 and for the first time officially confirmed filing of a criminal case in regard to the former vice president and he was released on bail.
