BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Azerbaijan's balance of payments current account surplus amounted to $2.6 billion in the first half of 2024, Director of the Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) Samir Nasirov said during a media briefing, Trend reports.

“The share of the current account in GDP amounted to 7.5 percent. The current account surplus in the oil and gas sector reached $6.9 billion (down 15.4 percent), while the deficit in the non-oil sector amounted to $4.3 billion (up 41.1 percent)," he said.

Meanwhile, it would be emphasized that in the same period last year, the surplus stood at $5.1 billion. Thus, the surplus decreased by 49.07 percent over the year.

To note, the Central Bank forecasts a current account surplus of $6-$7 billion by the end of 2024.

Azerbaijan's current account surplus in 2023 amounted to $8.3 billion (64.7 percent reduction compared to 2022).
