GUAM National Coordinators to Work Out Agenda for Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 November/ Trend , corr N. Abdullayeva/ The national coordinators of GUAM member states will work out agenda for the meeting of foreign ministers in Kiev in next few days, GUAM Secretary General Valeriy Chechelashvili said to Trend by telephone from Kiev.

The meeting of foreign ministers of GUAM - Organization for Democracy and Economic Development-will take place on 4 -5 December in Helsinki.

The meeting of national coordinators of GUAM member states will be held on 20-21 November in Kiev.

A number of issues including political cooperation, cooperation in various fields and organizational activity will be discussed at the meeting, Chechelashvili said. Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov will represent Azerbaijan at the meeting of national coordinators.

Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name -- Organization for Democracy and Economic Development-- GUAM.
