Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani met with U.S. officials in Munich, an Iranian official who preferred to keep his anonymity told Trend .

"Larijani participated in the Munich Security Conference based on Iran's recommendations," the official said.

Iran believes that Larijani must take part in the discussions with the U.S., he said.

The official refused to provide further details on the issue.

Seventy delegates from 50 countries took part in the 45th International Munich Security Conference on Feb. 6-8. In addition to 300 participants, over 10 heads of states participated, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nikolas Sarkozy, U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"Iran wants to send a neutral representative to the conference," Intihab news agency reported earlier.

Intihab did not report on the meeting between Iranian and U.S. officials.

Recently, the U.S. and Iranian presidents expressed their readiness to hold discussions.

In response to U.S. President Barack Obama's phrase, "Now it is Iran's turn," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country is prepared to negotiate on mutually beneficial terms.

"Obama intends to negotiate with Iran. The U.S. must change its policy. We will hold negotiations if they are of a strategic character," Ahmadinejad said during his speech in Tehran on Feb. 10 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution.
