BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. A total of 881 individuals have been officially registered to run for Azerbaijan's parliamentary election so far, the nation's Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Mazahir Panahov said at the CEC's meeting in Baku today, Trend reports.

According to him, 1,508 candidates threw their hats in the ring for MPs, and 11 individuals are vying for the top spot.

The CEC chairman noted that out of 26 parties registered in Azerbaijan, 25 are throwing their hats in the ring for the election.

Panahov said that 1,462 people had been approved. Of these, 1,420 people received subscription sheets, and 1,191 people have already returned them.

On June 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the dissolution of the Azerbaijani Parliament of the sixth convocation and the appointment of an extraordinary election to the Azerbaijani Parliament.

To note, the forthcoming election has been set for September 1, 2024.
