Baku is hosting the U.N. General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union's sixty-fourth summer session, the Azerbaijani Public Television and Radio Company said.

"Holding of a session of the General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union in Baku is the result of the trust of this gigantic organization to the country," director of the International Relations Department of the Public Television Adil Kerimli said.

He said that the General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union meets twice a year.

Winter session is held in Geneva, Switzerland.

A location for the summer session is chosen after applications in different countries are checked. It depends on the infrastructure and relationships to the media in these countries.

"Another important aspect of this event lies in the fact that people who are shaping world opinion, come to Azerbaijan.

The event is an important means of bringing the truth about our country to the world," Kerimli said.

The session is important for public broadcasters and aims to integrate Azerbaijani public television and radio into the international broadcasting space, Luxembourg Television Company Director Fernand Veides said.

He added that the two companies can cooperate by sharing music through the radio.

General Director of the German ZDF television channel noted the event's significance in terms of discussing European Broadcasting Union' problems and prospects for development.

The session is organized by the Azerbaijani Public Television and Radio Company. About 75 broadcasters from 46 countries are attending.
