Iran petrochemical exports surpass 14.5 million tons

Iran exported over 14.5 million tons of petrochemicals worth 2.2 billion dollars in the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year, which began March 20, 2012, the Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Abdolhossein Bayat said on Wednesday.

Bayad went on to note that 37.5 million tons of petrochemical were produced in 51 petrochemical complexes in the mentioned period, the IRNA news agency reported.

Iran currently export petrochemical to 60 countries, he said.

China accounted for 22.7 percent of Iran' total petrochemical exports, Bayat added.

According to Bayat, the country's installed petrochemical production capacity is currently around 56 million tons.

It is while it was announce on February 6 that the country has exported some 22 million tons of petrochemicals worth over 10 billion dollars in the first ten months of the current Iranian Calendar year.

The mount is expected to rise to over 14 billion dollars by the end of year, the Mehr News Agency reported.

Iran's total petrochemical products output stood at 31 million tons in the mentioned period.

Bayat said last month that once all the Mehre Mandegar projects in the petrochemical sector come on stream, 12 million tons would be added to the country's petrochemical production capacity.

According to the Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi, the country plans to build 70 new petrochemical production units.

Once all the units come on stream the nation's installed petrochemical production capacity would reach 100 million tons, he said.

Petrochemical sector is one of the most profitable industries of Iran and we can guarantee a 30-percent interest to the investors, Qasemi added.
