Azerbaijan Melioration and Water Economy Increased Investment Allocations

In 2006, the main investment allocations of Azerbaijan Melioration and Water Economy JSC has increased by 1.5 times as compared with 2000-2005. Presently 135 water reservoirs with a capacity of 21.5 bln cu.m, 14 waterworks facility, 49100 km irrigation canal, 30,400 drainage collection networks, 895 pumping stations, 110,000 various hydraulic installations, 7,119 subarctic wells, 1,760 km levees, etc are under exploitation, the Chairman of the Board of JSC Ahmad Ahmadzade, told Trend.

At present, work on the clean-up of 20.3 mln cu.m of water has been implemented in collector-drainage and irrigation networks, and 1,695 hydraulic installations, 346 hydro-posts, 1,588 subarctic pumps, 313 pumps, 551 electric and diesel motors, 229 transformers and 7 moving pumping stations have been repaired. Shore protection work has been fulfilled in dams with a volume of 2,916.1 cu.m, and rock-concrete platinums with a capacity of 13,3 cu.m, fascine platinums with a capacity of 7,00 cu.m and gabion platinums with a capacity of 2,500 cu.m have been installed. To ensure the safe flow of Kur and Araz rivers, work was carried out to strengthen the 350 km dams.
