In January-May Baku International Sea Trade Port transhipped 770,000 tons of oil cargo compared to 599,000 tons in January-April, a source in the Baku port said.

"In the five months 770,000 tons of crude oil and oil products were transhipped, which is about 20 percent less than the same period last year," the source said.

As a source said earlier, the rate of decline is due to overall decline in the transit of the Kazakh and Turkmen oil and from middle of last year redirection of the part of the oil cargo from Central Asia to the oil terminal at Sangachal, where Cross Caspian transhipments are carried out.

In 2009, the Baku Port transhipped 2.5 million tons of oil cargo, which is 10 percent less than in 2008. In total, in 2009 the port transhipped 5.1 million tons of cargo.
