Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov has met with Nuer Baikeli, director general of the National Energy Administration of China, in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message March 1.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on a number of key areas of cooperation.
“The parties noted the high level of partnership achieved in the energy sphere, which is a priority for both countries, and reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing productive cooperation that meets the national interests and development priorities of the two friendly countries,” said the message.
The sides discussed possibilities of new forms of joint activities in the energy sector, implementation of joint projects and programs.
China is Turkmenistan's biggest trading partner. Chinese companies are represented in Turkmen market in the oil and gas and telecommunications spheres, transport, agriculture, textile, chemical and food industry, healthcare and construction.
Chinese companies have implemented a number of major projects in the gas sector. In particular, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) takes part in development of the Bagtyyarlyk contract area and the giant gas field "Galkynysh". Since 2009, China has been importing the Turkmen gas, the volumes of which are gradually increasing.
