Preliminary results of Kazakhstan's tax amnesty summed up

As a result of holding tax amnesty in Kazakhstan, some 6.5 billion tenge ($17.1 million) worth of penalties and fines were written off, Kazakhstan’s First Vice Minister of Finance Berik Sholpankulov said, Trend reports with reference to Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.

Within the framework of the implementation of the decree of the president dated June 26, 2019 and entitled “On measures to reduce the debt burden of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, the National Bank, State Credit Bureau JSC and Fund for Problem Loans JSC together with second-tier banks and microfinance organizations decided to write off the fines and penalties on unsecured consumer loans accumulated by July 1, 2019, at banks and microfinance organizations, for all Kazakhs.

Furthermore, since August 2019, the tax amnesty for physical persons was also initiated.

Within the tax amnesty, Kazakh citizens may pay the amount of the main debt for tax liabilities for previous years and the penalty on these liabilities will be written off.

According to Sholpankulov, the total number of tax payers who used tax amnesty opportunity amounted to 44,397 people, who paid off 18.4 billion tenge ($48.6 million) of main debt, and as a result, 6.5 billion tenge ($17.1 million) of penalty and fines were written off.
