Inflation rate in Iran keeps deepening

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 28. The point-to-point inflation rate in Iran grew by 40.2 percent in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 22 through December 21, 2023), compared with the same month last year, Trend reports.

Data from Iran’s Statistical Center shows that families in Iran spent an average of 40.2 percent more on a number of products and services in the 9th month of the current Iranian year.

Point-to-point inflation is the percentage change in the number in the price index compared to the same period last year.

In the 9th month, the price index was 217.0 in Iran.

Point-to-point inflation in the 8th month was 41.4 percent in prices of food, soft drinks, and tobacco products in Iran, while in the non-food and services sector it was 39.5 percent.

Point-to-point inflation in the 8th month was 40.1 percent in Iran’s cities and 40.3 percent in villages.

According to the report, the monthly inflation in the country for the 8th month rose by 0.7 percent compared to the 8th month (October 23 through November 21, 2023) and reached 2.9 percent.

The monthly inflation rate refers to the percentage change in the price index number compared to the previous month.

In the 9th month, monthly inflation was 2.9 percent in cities and 2.9 percent in villages.

At the end of the 9th month, the annual inflation rate in the country (December 22, 2022 through December 21, 2023) decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous period (December 22, 2021 through December 21, 2022) and amounted to 44.4 percent.

The annual inflation rate is the average percentage change in price index numbers over the past year. At the end of the 9th month, annual inflation was 44.1 percent in Iranian cities and 46 percent in villages.
