In January-June of 2006, the growth of the communications and information technologies sector in Azerbaijan was 27.1%, Ali Abbasov, the minister of communications and information technologies, told during the meeting held with the participation of Azerbaijani president in the Cabinet of Ministers, Trend reports.
According to Abbasov, the gross revenues for this period were AZN 250 mln, the share of the private sector reached 70%, and the investments are reported at AZN 80 mln.
For the account period, the set of optical TV channels has expanded and Nakchivan Autonomous Republic joined this set through Iran.
Touching up on the creation of a special economic zone in Azerbaijan for the development of high technologies, Abbasov stressed that it assumes a great importance for the development of whole IT sector of the country. Azerbaijan is in possession of enough potential for this, the minister added.
