Construction of a waste sorting complex has started in the largest city of Kazakhstan, Almaty.
Head of Almaty City Administration Bauyrzhan Baibek has inspected the waste sorting plant’s construction in the Alatau District, according to the City Administration’s press service.
The plant’s capacity will fully cover Almaty’s needs for waste processing.
The construction of the complex, to be supplied with advanced European equipment, is carried out through investment from Green Recycle LLP. The plant, with a capacity of 550,000 tons per year, is expected to be commissioned in the summer of 2018.
Within the project, it is planned to introduce an integrated waste management system, including collection, transportation and sorting of solid waste, which will in turn reduce the environmental burden on the city.
Baibek also visited an industrial zone in the Alatau District, said the press service. As of today, 40 projects worth a total of 191 billion tenges have been registered in the industrial zone. The city officials are working to increase the occupancy of the industrial zone with new projects.
