The Uzbek-Kyrgyz trade turnover may increase up to $500 million in the coming years.

The Uzbek-Kyrgyz trade turnover may increase up to $500 million in the coming years, said Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Sahib Saifnazarov.

He made the remarks at a bilateral business forum in Tashkent on Oct. 6. The forum was held as a part of a visit of Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev to Uzbekistan.

According to Saifnazarov, the two countries’ trade turnover rose by more than 60 percent and amounted to $170 million in nine months of 2017, exceeding the volume for 2016.

Kyrgyzstan’s Economy Minister Artem Novikov, for his part, said that more than 200 entrepreneurs take part in the forum and this is a significant result.

Novikov noted that as part of the Kyrgyz president’s visit, the sides have already agreed to sign contracts worth more than $200 million, and one third of them are the contracts for the exports from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan.
