Iran and Pakistan are willing to improve volume of their bilateral trade cooperation, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said here on Wednesday, IRNA reported.
Talking to reporters upon his arrival in the Pakistani capital city, he said the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries which stood at dlrs 1.2 billion was not satisfactory.
He said Iran and Pakistan, as two big neighboring countries enjoying long-standing relations, were seeking deeper and more extensive ties in many areas including economy, transportation, culture, science and security.
The foreign minister also noted that the aim of his visit to Islamabad was to take part in the 18th session of Iran-Pakistan joint economic commission during which a number of documents and agreements would be signed by the two countries.
According to Salehi, a joint statement on enhancement of mutual relations will also be issued.
He said he will also review topics of mutual interest with Pakistani officials including regional security particularly that of Afghanistan as well as Iran-Pakistan-Afghanistan trilateral summit which was recently held in Tehran and its next meeting is to take place in Islamabad.
Terming the project to transfer Iran's gas to Pakistan as major joint venture, he voiced Tehran's readiness to export 1,000 megawatts of electricity to the country once the needed infrastructures were ready.
