Iranian officials and decision makers need to reach a consensus in order to fulfill the goals of the country’s 20-year development plan namely Vision 2025 in tourism sector.

Yaqub Aminzadeh, a senior member of tourism commission at Tehran chamber of commerce, has told Trend that the plan has envisaged luring 20 million tourists per year.

However, the number of tourist arrivals in Iran over the last fiscal year (starting March 20) was below six million people.

Urging the officials to take required measures in order to attract tourists into the country, he touched upon the number of Iranian travelers visiting abroad and said about nine million Iranian tourists visited foreign countries over the last year.

He further called for holding training courses for the individuals involved in tourism sector.

Neighboring Turkey alone attracted 2.5 million Iranian tourists in 2017, indicating an increase of 50.2 percent compared to 2016.

According to the Turkish Hotel Association, Iranians spend an average of six days in Turkey, spending approximately $1,000 per person, compared to $630 per person for all other foreign tourists.
