Hundreds of members of the Syrian expatriate community in Jordan protested Saturday outside a UN office in the capital city Amman against Russia and China for supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, dpa reported.

Tens of thousands of Syrians live in Jordan.

The demonstrators called for Assad's overthrow and criticized Russian-Chinese support for Syria at international bodies.

On October 4, China and Russia vetoed a European Union resolution demanding respect for human rights in Syria as the seven-month-old protests in that country continued to be met with military repression.

The double vetoes killed the resolution, which was initiated by Britain, France, Germany and Portugal, the four European countries in the council.
