NATO-Azerbaijan Development Prospects Take Special Place in Military Doctrine – Defence Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Azerbaijan's military doctrine is ready and it has been submitted to the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament). Prospective of the relationships between NATO and Azerbaijan takes a special place in the document, Azerbaijani Minister of Defence , Safar Abiyev, said on September 28 while receiving a delegation headed by NATO Secretary General's special representative on South Caucasus and Central Asia, Robert Simmons.

According to Simmons, the NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation is successfully developing and positive results have already been achieved.

The first stage of the cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan within the framework of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) has come to an end. The second stage envisages wider cooperation, and Azerbaijan is resolute in its success.

An exchange of views on the military and political situation in South Caucasus was held at the meeting. Abiyev reported that Armenia is pursuing an aggressive policy in the region, keeps on arming with the support of its patrons, deploys in the occupied Azerbaijani territory numerous military equipment, ammunition, and arms which have no registration. That makes the situation in the region dangerous.

Simmons said Azerbaijan had completely fulfilled its obligations toward NATO within the framework of cooperation. According to him, NATO-Azerbaijan bonds are mounting.

The NATO representative noted his confidence about the second stage of IPAP to be a success.
