OSCE Prepared to Study Reason of Opposition’s Boycotting Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 August / corr. Trend R.Novruzov / The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is prepared to study reasons of opposition's boycotting the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

"We are ready to come to Azerbaijan and to hold necessary researches concerning democratic elections and Azerbaijan said that it would invite us for monitoring when the elections started officially," Jens-Hagen Eschenbacher, spokesman of the  ODIHR told Trend by telephone from Warsaw.

According to him, the ODIHR was informed about opposition parties' statements, in which rules of the elections campaign were condemned and intends to study reality of these statements.

According to  Eschenbacher, the Office will hold monitoring in the presidential elections, which will take place in Azerbaijan on 15 October.

The candidatures of Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Mais Gulaliyev, the chairman of the Greens Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, the chairman of the Muasir Musavat party, Fuad Aliyev, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, and Igbal Agazade, the chairman of the Umid Party, were officially nominated for the presidential post.

The opposition Musavat, the Classical Popular Front and the Democratic parties refused to participate in the elections.
