Russia-Germany Dialogue Most Urgent, Says Russian President

Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 October / Trend corr. V.Zhavoronkova/ Russia-Germany dialogue is now most urgent than ever, Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev said at the 8th Russia-Germany Petersburg Dialogue forum, Vesti channel quoted.

"Europe and the entire world are experiencing a complicated situation and are tackling the same problems. First of all, the problems regard the financial crisis. We need joint efforts. We must work over a new universal financial system," said President.

On 1 October, the St. Petersburg State University opened the 8th Russia-Germany Petersburg Dialogue forum. The forum, which was established in 2001, has become the place of extended discussion of cooperation between Russia and Germany, its strengthening and development.

According to Medvedev, the voice of truth must be heard now. Therefore, cooperation with Germany is important for Russia.

"The world has been divided into the friendly and the strange, the right and the wrong. The Berlin Wall cannot be restored, the Cold War cannot be resumed. Lessons must be learnt from this to struggle the globalization," President said.

According to Medvedev, it is necessary to understand that there is mutual dependence in all spheres, and it is impossible to survive without mutual cooperation.

"We consider our Russian modernization to be a strategic task. And we will follow this way. Cooperation with Germany is therefore important. We take the world economic problems as a chance to pursue new economic policy," said Medvedev.
