Economic integration in South Asia, where all countries will collaborate, and each of them will play its role, is an achievable goal, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said at a conference on regional economic cooperation in Afghanistan. The conference was held in Pakistan.
"The next step is to carefully assess where we stand, and move to a higher level, focusing on practical problems," Karzai said today.
He said that Afghanistan has focused on various projects and activities that contribute to strengthening regional cooperation within the region. "The principal of these projects is the CASA-1000, after the realization of which 1,000 MW of energy will be delivered in transit from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan," said Karzai.
Another key project is a TAPI pipeline project through Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, which will deliver natural gas in transit to India through Pakistan and Afghanistan.
