Citizens' religious rights not restricted in Azerbaijan: head of presidential administration department

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 4 / Trend , J.Babayeva/

Mosques are not destructed in Azerbaijan, but definite figures' illegal activities are prevented, Head of the Presidential Administration Public-Political Department Ali Hasanov told journalists on June 4.

"Mosques which have been built by definite figures in Azerbaijan with commercial purposes cannot function normally. Discipline, law and order are necessary. I do not consider this as the restriction of citizens' rights," Hasanov said.

Two mosques have been razed in Baku within last two-three months and activities of some of them have been suspended for the absence of necessary documents.

There are 1,750 mosques in Azerbaijan and roughly 1,000 of them operate, the country's State Committee on Religious Organizations reported.
