EU, Kyrgyzstan discuss bilateral cooperation

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbayev on Friday met with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel, the Foreign Ministry reported.

During the meeting, Kazakbayev informed Morel on the current socio-political and socio-economic situation in Kyrgyzstan, formation of a new composition of the Jogorku Kenesh (the Parliament) and the government.

The two sides also discussed issues of economic and trade ties and attraction of investment into the Kyrgyz economy. Kazakbaev noted the high efficiency and usefulness of projects and programs undertaken by the European Union in Kyrgyzstan.

They also discussed current trends in cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the EU in the field of security, including combating terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational crime.

The sides agreed on the need for decisive action to prevent and combat the expanding threat of terrorism in the context of the current situation in Kyrgyzstan and the region as a whole.
