Azerbaijani student union supports candidacy of Ilham Aliyev in upcoming presidential elections (PHOTO)

The opening of the annual conference of the Azerbaijan Student Youth Organisation's Union (ASYOU) was held on June 3, in Baku.

The head of the Department on Social Political Issues of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov, deputy minister of youth and sports Intigam Babayev and other officials, as well as 1400 students who are the representatives of the student youth organisations of 84 ASYOU member universities and secondary specialised educational institutions participated in the event.

The conference was held in Baku, Ganja, Lankaran and Nakhchivan via a live broadcast.

In his opening speech, chairman of ASYOU Shahin Ismayilov, informed the participants about the agenda and other conference issues.

The ASYOU annual report, admission of new members and discussion of separate themes are included in the conference agenda.

Themes, such as the youth policy of government in the last 10 years and the contribution of the student youth organisations into its realisation, contributions of ASYOU into the social-political processes going on in Azerbaijan in the last 10 years and the attitude of youth towards these processes and other issues will be discussed during the conference.

Ismayilov informed the participants on the activities of the ASYOU over the last year, the projects that are being carried out by this organisation and its international relations.

Then, the representatives of ASYOU member youth organisations spoke about the activities that are currently being carried out.

A declaration supporting the candidacy of Ilham Aliyev in the upcoming presidential elections was also accepted at the conference.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for the autumn of 2013.
