PKK withdrawal from Turkey to finish on September 1

The process of withdrawal of the militants of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from Turkey is expected to finish on September 1, this year, Sabah newspaper reported on Monday.

Over the past 45 days since the beginning of the withdrawal process PKK members have completely left the provinces of Hakkari, Sirnak, Van, Mardin, Diyarbakir, Siirt, Mus, Bitlis and Bingol.

The last groups of fighters from the provinces in the Black Sea region of Turkey, as well as the province of Tokat and Sivas, have already begun the process of withdrawal from the territory of Turkey.

PKK militants began leaving the Turkish territory on May 8.

Imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan previously called on members of the organization to lay down arms and leave the country.

Turkish authorities promised to create the conditions for PKK militants who laid down their weapons to freely leave the country.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK over an independent Kurdish state has lasted for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the European Union.
