BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. A delegation led by Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action visited NATO headquarters in Luxembourg, Trend reports.
On the first day of the visit, representatives of the Agency and the Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to NATO held bilateral meetings with Orkhan Muratli, Head of Operations Support of the Alliance's National Security and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and other officials.
During the meetings, NATO's financial and technical aid to solve the landmine problem faced by Azerbaijan, as well as issues of studying modern technologies in this area and applying new methods were discussed.
The parties also widely discussed the exchange of experience in cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining.
In 2020-2024, a total of 379 people fell victim to mines in Eastern Zangezur and Karabakh. Of these, 70 people died, 309 people received various injuries. In Eastern Zangezur and Karabakh, demining work has been carried out on an area of 161 thousand hectares to date. 157 thousand mines and unexploded ordnance have been cleared.
