Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 21 /Trend, M.Aliyev/
Transferring the functions of Information Ombudsman to the Commissioner for Human Rights is a big responsibility, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova said on Tuesday.
"And before it, our mandate was to struggle for the restoration of the human rights violated by any state authorities, officials. Now another important responsibility was add to this," Suleymanova said.
The Azerbaijani Parliament has today adopted Law 'On the transfer of the Press Envoy's authority to the Human Rights Ombudsman" on the first reading.
The rules on consideration of complaints over the violation of Human Rights Ombudsman's right to receive the information are reflected in the draft law on amendments and additions to the Law of the Constitution "On the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan."
According to her, this transfer of functions of the Information Ombudsman requires special attention and approach.
"As soon as possible, we will invite journalists and those working in the field of information, and will hold discussions with them about how we can organize work. A department for information will be established. Transparency will be ensured in the appointment of the leadership and members of the department. Journalists will also take part in this process. In my opinion, not only journalists, but also the media carriers should be aware of their rights," Suleymanova said.
According to her, getting information belongs not only to journalists. Everyone has the right to get the full interesting information from government agencies.
"We have previously received appeals about violation of the right to information," Suleymanova said.
