IDEA organizes int'l camp of young environmentalists in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 13 / Trend /

The International Dialogue on Environmental Action (IDEA) will organize an international camp of young environmentalists under the title "Role of youth in environmental management: today and tomorrow" in Gabala, Azerbaijan, on Nov. 24-27, IDEA's message reads.

The IDEA campaign for environmental protection was established based on an initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Vice-President and Head of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia, Leyla Aliyeva. IDEA is aimed to bring young people together, and inform and encourage them to live in harmony with the environment.

The organization of the youth camp is aimed to contribute to the establishment of working relationships among various environmental groups and movements of developing countries in the region and in the world through regional cooperation and creation of a single network. In addition, the camp is aimed to ensure the active involvement of young environmentalists in their regional public lives, including strengthening their community roles and encouraging young environmentalists to be ambassadors for environmental education.

The camp will open with an opening ceremony and continue with seminars and courses on three different topics. The camp will operate with English and Russian as the main languages.

Representatives of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry and the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration will attend the opening ceremony. The event will be attended by over 100 young environmentalists from around the world.
The main theme panels are:

- role of youth in solving new and emerging global environmental problems;

- prospects for cooperation on the environment - projects and community support networks;

- development of "green economy".

Recent rapid development and industrialization in the South Caucasus region have put forward many environmental issues to the fore.

In turn, Azerbaijan, as a country located in a region that is rich with oil and gas reserves, is working to centralize the society's efforts to address threats posed by environmental problems, and direct these efforts into the right direction. In this regard, Azerbaijan announced 2010 to be the Year of Ecology. Despite the fact that Azerbaijan is a young country, the country prefers the industry and business, including environmental protection, ensures the education of young people, and engages them in the front lines of protecting the environment, IDEA reported.

The younger generation, realizing the urgency of resolving current environmental problems, must live with the common goal of environmental protection, the message reads.
