Turkmen GDP increases by 120.5 percent

Turkmenistan's GDP increased in early 2010 by 120.5 percent.

The Turkmen State Statistics Committee reported stable development in every sector of the economy in the first half of 2010. Growth in the construction sector amounted to 186 percent, in transport and communications - 141 percent and in agriculture - 115 percent.

Turkmenistan is a major natural gas exporter in the Caspian region.

Gas is exported to China, Russia and Iran. The country intends to diversify its economy. A substantial share of profits are being used to develop the oil-refining and textile industries.
