Azerbaijan hosted the presentation of a manual on the current state and prospects of tuition fees at higher educational institutions this week. The manual was prepared with the financial support of the Azerbaijani Presidential NGOs Support Council.

The manual was prepared by the Study of Economic Resources Public Union (SER) and the Azerbaijani Education Ministry's Research Coordination Council.

Head of the Research Coordination Council's Higher Education Economics Commission Avaz Bayramov said the main goal of the project was to prepare a universal methodology for setting tuition at public and private higher educational institutions.

SER head Ruslan Atakishiyev said 10 local high schools, including six public and four private institutions, took part in the survey to prepare the manuals.

"In addition, we also contacted the embassies of Russia, Turkey, the United States, and Germany, asking them to provide us with information in this sphere," Atakishiyev said.

He added that 1.3 percent of the GDP in the EU is directed toward the development of higher education, while in the United States, the figure is 3.3 percent.
