Turkey looks to attract more foreign tourists

Turkey intends to increase the number of foreign tourists up to 30 million people (a year), the country’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism told Trend Oct. 26.

A plan has been prepared in the country in order to increase the number of tourists and develop the tourism sector of Turkey, said the ministry.

The plan on stimulating the tourism sphere will be presented to the country’s Cabinet of Ministers for approval, according to the ministry.

It should be noted that currently, Turkey is actively developing its tourism sector. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country’s revenues from tourism rose by 8.7 percent and amounted to $5.4 billion in 2Q17 as compared to the same period of 2016.

During the first half of 2017, 12.25 million foreign tourists visited the country that is 14.05 percent more than in January-June 2016.

The number of foreign tourists visiting the country in June 2017 was 43 percent more than in the same month of 2016. Almost 3.5 million foreign tourists visited Turkey in June 2017, and 42,000 of them traveled to other countries through Turkey.
