The Uzbek president has signed a decree on supplementing the list of certain types of food and raw materials exempted from payment of customs payments, with the exception of fees for customs clearance, until Jan. 1, 2019.
Under the decree, the fresh and chilled potato was included into the list.
Thus, importers of fresh and chilled potatoes will not pay customs fees, except for registration fees, until the end of this year.
The State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, in accordance with the established procedure, was tasked to ensure timely and unimpeded customs clearance of imported potatoes.
The list already includes eight items, cattle; sheep and goats; meat of cattle ( fresh or chilled); lamb or goat meat ( fresh or chilled , except frozen), soya beans; sunflower seeds; sesame seeds; sugar and chemically pure sucrose in the solid state.
Uzbekistan is facing serious problems with providing the population with its own potatoes, especially in winter seasom. A significant part of the production is imported from neighboring countries, as well as from Russia. Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan can purchase up to 500,000 tons of potatoes from Kyrgyzstan.
