Iran's trade turnover with United Arab Emirates soars

Iran's trade turnover with the United Arab Emirates increased by 54 percent in terms of value and 24 percent in terms of volume during the first five months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through August 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to Latifi, the trade turnover between the two countries for the 5 months amounted to 9.5 million tons worth $7.3 billion.

Latifi added that Iran exported 5 million tons of goods worth $1.91 billion to the UAE in the five months. Exports increased by 23 percent in terms of value, while decreased by 15 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"In addition, Iran imported 4.43 million tons of goods worth $5.39 billion from the UAE within the mentioned period. The imports increased by 68 percent in terms of value and 157 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year," he said.

The spokesman stressed that Iran mainly exported dried fruits, fishery products, fruits, dates, greens, caviar, sweets and chocolate, carpets and handicrafts, household appliances, electronics, musical instruments, clothing, bags, footwear, furniture and others to the UAE in the five months.

The official noted that over the 5 months, Iran imported from the UAE mainly animal feed, various seeds, various edible oils, tea, coffee, spices, sugar, fruit juice, rice, minerals, equipment, fabric and thread, paper, wood materials, and etc.

"The trade turnover between Iran and the UAE for the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021) amounted to 20.6 million tons worth $14.4 billion. Taking into account the trade turnover between the two countries in the first five months of the current Iranian year, this figure may increase to 22.5 million tons worth $17.5 billion in this year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022)," he said.
