Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.31 / Trend E.Ismayilov /
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has drilled aver 1,000 meters of the first exploration well at the Umid gas field in the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea. The project depth of the well is 6,500 meters, a source in SOCAR said on Aug.31.
This is the first exploration drilling the company has implemented independently over the past 15 years. The expected gas reserves in Umid field are estimated at 300 billion cubic meters and the expected gas condensate reserves are estimated at 30-40 million tons.
The exploration drilling is underway successfully and the company has drilled about 1,000 meters. It is planned to drill 4,000 meters in 2009, the source said.
Launching the drilling last week the company managed to drill 1,000 meters, because the top layer is easily accessible for drilling.
The drilling in this field will be difficult because of high pressure and difficult geology, the other source added.
Bayil Limani exploration offshore drilling unit of SOCAR will carry out drilling.
Earlier, SOCAR completed construction of Umid-1 platform. Umid-1 platform built on the base of unfinished Chiraq-6 platform is the largest facility within the program. Its height is 72 meters. The platform was installed in 15 kilometers of the Bulla Deniz field at the depth of 58 meters. A total of six gas wells are expected to be drilled from the platform.
