Azerbaijan drafting laws on gas supply, energy

At present, 4 draft laws for the development of the energy system have been prepared and submitted for the approval in Azerbaijan, Trend quoted Zaur Mammadov, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan as saying.

He made the remarks during the Baku International Energy Charter Forum “Transition to renewables in power generation, transport, heating and cooling: modern challenges and trends”.

Mammadov noted that these laws are the following:

On Electrical Power on Electricity

On Use of Renewable Energy Sources in the Electricity Generation
On Regulator in the fields of Energy and Utilities
On Efficient Use of Energy Resources and Energy Efficiency

He noted that work is under way to draft the following laws:

On Energy
On Gas Supply

“The Law on Efficient Use of Energy Resources and Energy Efficiency determines the legal, organizational and economic basis of the state policy in the field of efficient use of energy resources and energy efficiency. It regulates relations arising in the field of energy production, storage, transmission, distribution and sale, as well as during energy consumption. The law applies to physical and legal entities operating in this field, including consumers.

Main objectives of the state policy are the following: Ensuring the reliability and safety of the energy system; Ensuring sustainable competitive economic development through efficient use of energy resources.

A new station with a capacity of 385 MW is under construction. Another station with a capacity of 550 MW is required.

Azerbaijan underperforms in the world average of energy efficiency index by 32 percent and trails the OECD countries by 2.5 times. According to the energy per capita, Azerbaijan trails by 22 percent and 2.8 times, respectively,” said Mammadov.
