The total coal (steam coal, coking coal, lignite and recovered coal) production in the world stood at 7575 Mt in 2020 with almost 50 percent accounting for China, Trend reports with reference to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The global coal exports was led by Indonesia with 396 Mt, followed by Australia with 390 Mt, Russian Federation with 188 Mt, South Africa with 62 Mt, United States with 58 Mt, Colombia with 30 Mt, Mongolia with 29 Mt, Canada with 26 Mt, Kazakhstan with 24 Mt and Mozambique with 7 Mt.
The ranking of net importers is also led by China with 306 Mt.
