Uzbekistan sees growth in GDP in 1Q2020

Following the results of the first quarter, Uzbekistan's gross domestic product grew by 4.1 percent and made up 110.5 trillion soum ($10.8 billion), Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Industrial production increased by four percent, reaching 82.2 trillion soum ($8.1 billion), and production of consumer goods by 11.2 percent, reaching 22.9 trillion soum ($2.2 billion). Output of agricultural, forestry and fishing products increased by 3.9 percent, reaching 25.2 trillion soum ($2.4 billion).

Investments in fixed capital decreased by 89.5 percent from the same period of 2019. The volume of construction works increased by 6.5 percent.

The turnover of retail trade increased by 3.8 percent, and services - by 9.9 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

The foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan for the period from January through March 2020 amounted to $8.1 billion, including export - $3.37 billion and import - $4.76 billion.

The foreign trade balance was negative: - $1.4 billion.

By and large, in the first quarter of 2020, Uzbekistan's economy was not affected by restrictive measures in connection with coronavirus infection and showed rather positive indicators of the first quarter on most positions.

Nevertheless, the measures taken by other countries to combat the pandemic have already had a negative impact on the results of foreign economic activity.
