The EBRD Board of Directors approved financing for Thermal Power Plants JSC in the amount of €88.6 million to ensure the uninterrupted operation of energy generating enterprises in Uzbekistan in the autumn-winter period, Trend reports referring to the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held negotiations with the Acting President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Jurgen Rigterink, dedicated to cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD.
Rigterink appreciated the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan and confirmed the EBRD's intention to continue financial, investment, and consulting support for the processes of economic transformation in the country.
The Acting Head of the EBRD informed the Uzbek side of the approval by the Board of Directors of financing for Thermal Power Plants JSC in the amount of €88.6 million to ensure the uninterrupted operation of power generating enterprises of Uzbekistan in the autumn-winter period.
In addition, the EBRD will support the direct investment of UAE’s Masdar Clean Energy in the project on the construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic power plant in the Karmaninsky district of the Navoi region by providing financing to the Emirati company in the amount of $60.0 million.
Parties also discussed issues of expanding cooperation in attracting investments for the implementation of promising investment projects on PPP (Purchasing power parity) terms in Uzbekistan in the fields of energy, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
The readiness of the Bank to expand the program of financial support for small and medium-sized businesses was emphasized, which will create additional opportunities for creating new jobs and increasing the welfare of the country's population.
