KALBAJAR, Azerbaijan, September 3. In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable energy, Azerbaijan's brand new hydroelectric power plant "Yukhary Veng," built by Azerenergy OJSC in Kalbajar, is poised to become the cream of the crop when it comes to green energy in the region since the liberation of these territories, Trend reports.
The plant, in line with President Ilham Aliyev’s strategy to turn reclaimed areas into green energy zones, has a capacity of 22.5 megawatts and is expected to meet the entire energy needs of Kalbajar district throughout the year for the next five years, spokesperson for Azerenergy, Teymur Abdullayev stated.
"The plant will generate up to 66 million kilowatt hours of green energy annually, which translates to significant environmental and economic benefits," Abdullayev emphasized.
The facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a 110 kV open distribution unit and a 24-fiber optical cable line. It adheres to high environmental standards, featuring specialized hydrotechnical devices to protect river ecosystems and ensure clean water discharge.
The construction, which involved both local and international experts, including Austrian and Italian specialists, has already shown its true colors in terms of economic viability. The project is expected to pay for itself within seven years thanks to its cost-effectiveness.
This initiative, as a part of the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World," not only pushes Azerbaijan's commitment to green energy but also adds fuel to the fire of regional economic and environmental development, by creating job opportunities and boosting the area's energy independence.
