ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 20. The EU welcomes the ambitious strategy to establish Kazakhstan as a transport and logistics hub and is interested in participating in infrastructure projects as well as attracting private investors, Trend reports.
This was stated during a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Nazira Nurbayeva and the Hors Classe Adviser, Directorate-General for International Partnerships of the European Commission, Henrik Hololei on the practical development of transport and transit cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU.
The parties welcomed the development of Kazakh-European relations and discussed joint actions to diversify transit corridors between the markets of Asia and Europe by realizing the transport and logistics potential of Kazakhstan, increasing the harmonization of the transport sectors of the countries of the Central Asia and Caucasus region, and promoting aviation cooperation.
The Deputy Minister spoke in detail about the strategic vision for the development of the transport industry in Kazakhstan. According to her, Kazakhstan plans to increase the country's competitiveness through the implementation of large railway projects and the construction of new logistics facilities, as well as to build constructive interaction with the countries of the region and participants in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor).
Hololei expressed support for initiatives to develop a transit hub in the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to him, trusted political dialogue and economic relations between Kazakhstan and the EU are a positive foundation for transport and logistics cooperation.
The parties also discussed in detail measures to develop transport connectivity between Central Asia and the EU, as recommended in the corresponding EBRD-EU study.
