CzechTrade office in Uzbekistan to enhance bilateral ties – regional director (Exclusive)

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 4. The newly-appointed CzechTrade foreign office in Uzbekistan, which is working closely with the Czech Republic's Embassy in Tashkent, will efficiently assist Czech enterprises in developing their export potential in Uzbekistan, Petr Jurčík, Director of the CzechTrade state agency for export support in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, told Trend.

“We want Czech enterprises to be able to locate potential business partners in Uzbekistan. CzechTrade will also provide Uzbek enterprises with services targeted at assisting them in locating competent Czech-based suppliers. Given the visits of Czech political representatives, Uzbekistan has received a lot of attention recently. All of these visits stressed trade assistance and prospects for Czech enterprises. The recent reforms implemented in Uzbekistan have enormous potential for local economic growth, attracting interest from Czech enterprises,” the company representative noted.

Jurčík explained that Uzbekistan's economic emphasis is on resource extraction and processing, and that the chemical industry has great growth potential, providing an attractive chance for Czech companies to assist upgrade existing factories.

“Current Czech Republic exports to Uzbekistan stand at $114 million during January through September 2023, with an exponentially expanding trend in recent years. We wish to give Czech enterprises the opportunity to effectively locate business partners and fully utilize Uzbekistan's potential by establishing the CzechTrade office in Uzbekistan,” the regional director concluded.

CzechTrade stated its intent to create an office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan at the start of this year. The office is now anticipating to open in 2024 and later to provide help to exporters in neighboring Tajikistan and, depending on the circumstances, to Turkmenistan.

Furthermore, in October 2023, the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Czech Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The signed agreement aims to foster and strengthen mutually beneficial collaboration between the countries.
