TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 5. The Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Agency (UzAtom) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) discussed the implementation of national projects aimed at developing nuclear infrastructure and the peaceful use of atomic energy, Trend reports.

UzAtom held a meeting with Director of the IAEA’s Technical Cooperation Division for Europe Eve-Kulli Kala.

During the meeting, the parties had a fruitful discussion on important matters regarding their collaboration, where special attention was given to the current status and future prospects of national projects being implemented with the support of the IAEA.

The participants also agreed to continue active collaboration, including holding expert meetings and working sessions to address issues related to the implementation of national projects and strengthening Uzbekistan's nuclear infrastructure.

Cooperation between UzAtom and the IAEA has been actively developing since Uzbekistan joined the organization in 1994. In recent years, more than 20 Uzbek specialists annually undergo training and advanced training within the framework of IAEA programs aimed at developing nuclear energy and radiation safety.

By 2030, it's planned to commission two VVER-1200 reactors, built jointly with the Russian Rosatom Corporation.
