Police officers prevent onion smuggling in Iran

Two trucks with 20 tons of smuggled onions were seized in Minab county of Iran’s Hormozgan province, Acting Police Chief of Hormozgan province, Colonel Abbasali Bekhdanifard said, Trend reports referring to ISNA.
The police officers seized two suspicious trucks at a checkpoint in Minab county as part of the operation against the smuggling of goods and currency, he added.
Bekhdanifard added that as a result of the operation, 20 tons of smuggled onions were found.
He said that the smuggled onions cost 800 million rials (about $19,000).
As a result, two people were detained, the investigation is underway.
Iran banned the export of potatoes and onions on April 4 to regulate the situation in the domestic market.
The price of one kilogram of onions has recently increased up to 150,000 rials (about $3.33).
