Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania and the Head of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Colonel Irakli Dzneladze held a meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Edmond Mulet, within the framework of the official visit.

The main topic of discussion was the status of the ongoing UN-led peacekeeping operations, and participation of Georgian military in these operations, Georgian Defence Ministry told Trend on Tuesday.

"UN representatives expressed their interest in participation of the Georgian units, taking into consideration their experience in peacekeeping operations held under the auspices of the UN. Therefore, the leadership of our mission to the UN is actively considering the details," Dzneladze said.

The Georgian delegation noted that, they are considering the possibility of including Georgian servicemen with the observer status in the UN peacekeeping operations. But the Georgian military should be re-trained and equipped.
